Yellow Fever Information and Tips

Yellow Fever is most common in Africa and South America, and is spread by mosquito bites.

Initial Symptoms:

• Fever 
• Chills
• Headache
• Fatigue
• Weakness

Severe Symptoms:

• High fever
• Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
• Bleeding
• Shock
• Organ failure

The more severe forms of the disease can be fatal

Ways to prevent:

• Use insect repellent 
• Wear clothes that cover arms and legs
• Use sunscreen (if using sunscreen, apply sunscreen first, before insect repellent)
• Sleep under a mosquito net
• Use air conditioning if possible
• The Yellow Fever vaccine

Treatment:​

• Rest
• Drink fluids
• Over-the-counter pain-relievers
• Avoid certain medication, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Naproxen
• If you have severe symptoms, go to the hospital
