Coronavirus vaccines have recently become available in the U.S. 2 types of vaccine are currently available: the Pfizer vaccine (for ages 16 years and up) and the Moderna vaccine (for age 18 years and up).

For best protection, it is recommended that the vaccine recipient takes two doses of the vaccine. It is recommended that you take the second shot 3-4 weeks after your first depending upon the vaccine you receive. The second dose of the Pfizer vaccine is recommended 3 weeks after the first and the second dose of the Moderna vaccine is recommended 4 weeks after the first.

The distribution of the vaccine is occurring on a tiered basis that has been decided upon by the Federal Government.

You may experience side effects from the vaccine. These side effects include pain and swelling in the arm, as well as fever, chills, tiredness, and headache. 

Essential workers, individuals with underlying medical conditions, and individuals aged 65 and over are strongly recommended to get vaccinated when vaccine becomes available.

Currently, vaccine availability is limited. When it increases, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) will expand the groups of people recommended to get vaccinated.
